\u00cd mars 2026 undirritu\u00f0u \u00cdsland og Evr\u00f3pusambandi\u00f0 samning um auki\u00f0 samstarf \u00e1 svi\u00f0i \u00f6ruggra gervihnattasamskipta \u00ed gegnum verkefnin GOVSATCOM og IRIS\u00b2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N\u00fd t\u00e6kif\u00e6ri fyrir \u00cdsland<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u00de\u00e1tttakan opnar fyrir auki\u00f0 samstarf vi\u00f0 evr\u00f3pska a\u00f0ila og n\u00fd t\u00e6kif\u00e6ri til n\u00fdsk\u00f6punar og t\u00e6knifram\u00fer\u00f3unar. Evr\u00f3pskar geim\u00e1\u00e6tlanir \u00e1 bor\u00f0 vi\u00f0 Copernicus<\/strong>, sem veitir a\u00f0gang a\u00f0 g\u00f6gnum um j\u00f6r\u00f0ina og umhverfi hennar, gegna mikilv\u00e6gu hlutverki \u00ed hafranns\u00f3knum, umhverfisv\u00f6ktun og sj\u00e1lfb\u00e6rri n\u00fdtingu au\u00f0linda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fyrir \u00cdsland, \u00fear sem hafi\u00f0 og sj\u00e1var\u00fatvegur skipa st\u00f3ran sess, felast mikil t\u00e6kif\u00e6ri \u00ed aukinni n\u00fdtingu gervihnattagagna til a\u00f0 efla \u00feekkingu, \u00f6ryggi og n\u00fdsk\u00f6pun \u00ed haftengdri starfsemi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iceland Joins the Administrative Board of the European Union Agency for the Space Programme<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Iceland has officially joined the Administrative Board of the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA), marking an important step in strengthening cooperation between Iceland and Europe in space technology, satellite data and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this participation, Iceland will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic discussions on EUSPA’s activities and share its expertise in areas such as environmental monitoring, Earth observation and security. Iceland will participate on the Board without voting rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2026, Iceland and the European Union also signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation on secure satellite communications through the GOVSATCOM and IRIS\u00b2 programmes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Opportunities for Iceland<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Iceland’s participation creates new opportunities for collaboration with European partners, supporting innovation and technological development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European space programmes such as Copernicus, which provides valuable Earth observation data, play an increasingly important role in ocean research, environmental monitoring and the sustainable management of natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Iceland, where the ocean and maritime industries are central to the economy, improved access to satellite data and international cooperation offers significant opportunities to strengthen knowledge, safety and innovation across the blue economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By joining EUSPA’s Administrative Board, Iceland reinforces its position in European space cooperation and contributes to the continued development and practical application of space technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
