Copernicus Ocean Hackathon 2026

The Copernicus Ocean Hackathon will take place at the Iceland Ocean Cluster building, located at Grandagarður 16, over the weekend of October 16–18.

The event offers students, entrepreneurs, and other interested individuals the opportunity to use ocean data to develop solutions to challenges related to Iceland’s marine environment.

A hackathon is an event where participants collaborate on ideas and develop solutions within a short period of time. No prior expertise in marine science is required, and participants do not need to have a team to take part.

The event will focus on data from the Copernicus Marine Service. These data are freely available to everyone and can be used to improve ocean and coastal monitoring and promote the sustainable use of marine resources.

Participation is free, and food and drinks will be provided throughout the weekend. The total prize pool is ISK 150,000, and winners will also receive support and workspace to further develop their ideas.

The event is funded by the European Union’s Copernicus Earth Observation Programme, in which the Icelandic Institute of Natural History serves as Iceland’s representative.
