“One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is opportunities for educational and cultural outreach related to space via our Space Iceland NextGen project” – Space Iceland. A few weeks back, Space Iceland participated in Reykjavík Big Bang festival on The Golden Records project. Children from all over Iceland worked together to update the Voyager Golden Records. The children selected new messages from Earth, sounds, and photos and wrote a song called “Sending Music to Space”. The combined work was then shown at the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre.
Space Iceland representatives spent a day with the children answering questions on space and our work while sending a golden record to the stratosphere via a weather balloon. The event superseded all our expectations, with more than 4000 visitors. Today Þykjó, the group behind the event, released this behind the scene video.

Nú þegar skólaárinu er að ljúka í grunnskólum landsins frumsýnum við myndband við lagið „Sendum tónlist út í geim“. Það er titillag Gullplötunnar – þátttökuverkefnis fyrir börn – sem ÞYKJÓ leiddi síðastliðinn vetur í samstarfi við hóp lista- og vísindafólks og listgreinakennara. Myndbandið veitir innsýn í verkefnið, hvernig það flakkaði í skóla víðsvegar um landið og var loks sent frá jörðu við hátíðlega athöfn í Hörpu.
