Copernicus Programme celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of advancements in Earth observation and environmental monitoring. To commemorate this milestone, Space Iceland hosted a special event titled “Copernicus Afmæliskaffi” on June 8, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM GMT. The gathering is at Laugavegur 163, 2nd floor, in Reykjavík.
The event featured discussions on the achievements of the Copernicus Programme and its impact on environmental monitoring and Earth observation. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with experts, learn about the latest developments in Copernicus services, and explore how Iceland contributes to and benefits from this European initiative.
The Copernicus Programme, initiated in 1998 with the signing of the Baveno Manifesto, has evolved into the world’s largest environmental monitoring endeavor. Over the past 25 years, it has provided invaluable data supporting various sectors, including climate change mitigation, disaster management, and sustainable development.
Space Iceland’s celebration in Reykjavík was part of a series of events across Europe honoring this significant anniversary, reflecting on past achievements and looking forward to future innovations in Earth observation.
